Our workshops are designed to help you think about the essentials of leadership and children's ministry. They are packed with practical wisdom and creative ideas to help your ministry be relevent and effective

Follow a track that reflects your area of ministry or select a range of workshops that interest you.

Pre-schoolers

Choose from this track if you want to learn more about pre-schoolers.

A1 BUILDING BLOCKS

Learn some of the theory behind working with pre-schoolers and explore what it means for the way we work in practice.

B1 BIBLE ALIVE

Bring the Bible to life for pre-schoolers through drama and storytelling.

Led by Nigel Winder.

C1 YOUNG AT ART

Discover how to engage with pre-school children and help them meet God through creative play and crafts that are fun, easy, inexpensive and theme- related.

Led by Colette Stevens.

Primary-aged Children

Choose any of these topics if you work with primary-aged children

A2 THE BATTLE FOR BOYS

Discover how to win boys over and get them engaged and involved in your programme.

Led by Stu Thompson.

B2 IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF PAUL

Walk the ancient roads of Corinth and Philippi, and discover ways of bringing Acts and Paul’s letters to life for your children.

Led by Annette Osborne.

C2 LEAD SMALL

Most people dream of doing something big — but is there always a big impact? Discover how we can lead small and strategically and build authentic faith.

Led by Diana Langdon.

A3 CRAFT CENTRAL

Try out some great craft ideas and learn how to use them for a really creative children’s ministry.

Led by Neville Gardner.

B3 WALK THE TALK

Find out how to use drama to help children engage with and explore Bible stories. Explore a range of interactive methods and techniques that will send you away with lots of practical ideas.

C3 GO BALLISTIC!

Add colour, fun, and bang to your programmes using balloons.

Children’s Ministry Certificate

This track is part of our Children’s Ministry Certificate which develops essential skills in children’s ministry. See the website for further details. You do not need to do the whole certificate to enrol in these workshops.

A4 FAITH FORMATION

Learn what to expect from children of different ages and stages of development — and how to meet them where they are at.

Led by Christine Dowell.

B4 POSITIVE DISCIPLINE

Explore a variety of practical ideas and strategies to help you manage your children’s behaviour.

Led by Andrew Ramsbottom.

C4 HOOK INTO THE BOOK

Explore a variety of creative and innovative ways to encourage children to meet God through the Bible.

Led by Paul Dadd.

Intermediates

Ministry to intermediates is a different mix of skills and practices than ministry to children or youth. Choose from the following topics to learn more about working with 10- to 12-year-olds during their intermediate years.

A5 ACTIVITY-BASED LEARNING

Find out how to turn fun times into learning experiences. Explore Activity-Based Learning (ABL) and find out how to use it to develop intermediate-aged young people.

B5 GRAPPLING WITH THE TENSION

Balancing your intermediate programmes to meet the needs of churched, unchurched and de-churched young people.

C5 MORE THAN FLIP TOP HEADS

Explore a variety of multisensory ways to engage intermediate-aged young people with God and His story.

All Ages

These topics are relevant for people who work with any age from preschool through to intermediate, and with their families too.

 A6 A NEW KIND OF LEADER

Explore seven beliefs and practical applications that will help you re-imagine how to influence the next generation.

Led by Diana Langdon.

B6 PRAYING IN COLOUR

Take a good look at prayer and explore how to help your children experience another way of communicating with God. Based on Sybil MacBeth’s book.

C6 YOUNG, OLD AND EVERYONE IN-BETWEEN

Discover a range of practical ideas to plan and run a worship service with mutli-ages present.

Led by Andrew Ramsbottom.

Family and Whanau

This track is for people who want to work with families and whanau, either in the church or community.

A7 YOUNG FAMILIES

Find out how to support families with young children into church life on Sundays and onwards into the children’s programme. Lots of practical ideas!

B7 GETTING BACK TO BASICS

Explore the five core values of Messy Church and find out what they mean in hands-on practice. For people leading or interested in Messy Church.

C7 A FAITH FULL FAMILY

Explore ways to help parents who are new Christians and new to church life, take up their role as primary spiritual caregivers and develop their life of faith at home with their family.

Senior Leadership Track

These topics are for experienced team leaders who want to understand themselves and the way they lead.
 

A8 FOUNDATIONS

Come and explore the foundations of our ministry and mission with children and families. Learn how to develop a vision that focuses on both the present and the future. Take a look at four areas of ministry that are critical for growth.

B8 INTROVERT, EXTROVERT OR AMBIVERT?

The one thing a leader needs to be is true to themselves — so are there personality traits that make one person a better leader than another? The answer to this question will influence the way you lead the people around you.

Led By Wayne Fraser.

 C8 COURAGEOUS CONVERSATIONS

Find out how people respond in times of conflict. Discover some tools to assist you resolve issues and transform relationships.

Led By Debbie Smith.

A9, B9 AND C9 STRENGTHENING YOURSELF FOR MINISTRY

As a senior/team leader it is vital that you have habits and rhythms in place to sustain you and strengthen you as you lead your team and your children. Come and explore some of these practices and learn how to keep yourself healthy. This workshop takes place over all three of these sessions. It also includes an online assessment with Strengthfinders which you will need to complete before the conference. We will let you know how to do this after you have registered.
